Agnetha Faltskog Back with Solo Album ‘A’
Agnetha Faltskog, the ABBA girl, has made a come-back with the single ‘When you really loved someone’ from their album ‘A’. The legendary singer, who is 62 now, said that she will release her first album since the past nine years in May 2013.
“I never thought I would sing again, but when I heard the first three songs I couldn’t say no,” said the Swedish singer, who is known to live a Greta- Garbo recluse lifestyle. ‘When you really loved someone’ was released on March 11, and was available on digital channels like iTunes and Spotify with a music video on Youtube that went viral instantly.
The beautiful and shy girl of ABBA who was known for her melodious voice and her lady-like demeanor, went on to marry Björn Ulvaeus, one of her band-mates, but the marriage didn’t last long. Agnetha went on to sing mellifluous songs of separation like ‘The Winner Takes it All’, which is still a bench-mark for heart-break music. Once ABBA split, Agnetha became paranoid and recluse.
The pop icon however said that she was never living in seclusion. “I have been described as very mysterious, but I’m not,” she said, “I think I’m just very grounded. My life contains so many other things; I have my children, my grandchildren, my two dogs, and a big place in the country. I have my own life.”
Agnetha did try to be in the music scene in the 80s but cutting English solo albums but they were a distant cry to the beautiful songs that ABBA created as a group. However, she did belt out a few numbers on her own, which did attain a certain degree of success like The Heat is On, I Won’t Let You Go and Wrap Your Arms Around Me.
Agnetha Faltskog is also known to have fear of flying, due to her traumatic experience while touring the US with ABBA in 1979, when her plane had to make an emergency landing when it was caught in the middle of tornado. When she cut her last album My Colouring Book in 2004, she stayed away from international promotions, yet it did business as her best solo album in the UK.
‘A’ will release on May 13 and the first song in the album is written by Angetha herself. There is also a duet which she has sung with the British singer Gary Barlow of Take That. The legend admitted, “ I hadn’t written music in a very long time but when I sat down at the piano, it came to me quite naturally.”
Faltskog has teamed with Swedish producer and songwriter Joergen Elofsson, who has written songs for artists like Britney Spears, Celine Dion and Kelly Clarson. “She’s a musician, a songwriter and singer who hasn’t done that for a while. We saw her open up, become much happier, with music again in her life,” he said.
ABBA, one of the best selling bands in the world, was formed in 1970 and became household name after 1974, when it won the Eurovision contest. ABBA split up in 1982 and despite hopes of reuniting, the band members disintegrated forever. The band has sold more than 380 million records till date.
ABBA will also open a museum dedicated to the group in the spring season. The museum will feature stage costumes worn by the singers. Visitors will also be able to sing along to memorable ABBA songs along the lifesize holograms of the group.
