Super Trouper is one of the most addictive pop numbers of ABBA. At first called “Blinka lilla stjärna” (Swedish version of popular nursery rhyme ‘Twinkle Twinkle Star’, this hit single was the title track from ABBA’s 1980 studio album ‘Super Trouper’. The song was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus with lead vocals from Anni-Frid Lyngstad.
. “Super Trouper” is a part of the ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits compilation, as well as in the Mamma Mia! musical.
Super Trouper actually means the huge spotlights used in stadium concerts and events. Much as popular ABBA was, the foursome were not really fond of performing onstage and liked performing on studios rather than going on tours. The lines are reflected in their lyrics which has an upbeat tempo but with a tingle of being lonely in a maddening crowd.
“Super Trouper” topped the charts in West Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, reland and the Netherlands. It was among the top 5 in Austria, France, Norway, and Switzerland, while it remained in Top 10 in Finland and Spain. Super Trouper remains one of the most played songs of ABBA on Youtube.
